Goodbye 2014

NYE 2014
Don't know about you, but I think it's an incredible experience to look back on your year - especially when you're a blogger. Growing up, New Year's Eve was a night to watch Dick Clark's TV special, eat lots of junk food, and watch some fireworks. I wasn't concerned about resolutions, what happened last year, much less what would happen the next. Thanks to blogging and instagram, I have something to look back on.

2014 Resolutions:

Read more: So I only read 3 or 4 books? I don't remember and I'm not going to kick myself for it either. I still love to read and still can't stop laughing through each chapter of the Man Repeller!

Volunteer more: I continued volunteering for a local animal shelter, but I also volunteered in other small ways. I recently joined the Meals on Wheels team and the people are wonderful. Looking forward to new volunteer opportunities in 2015!

Run more: Not only did I run a 10K, I also beat some personal records this year! I decided to try yoga for the summer, but now I'm back into running. Here's to new races in 2015, possibly a half?

Dress Up more: Thanks to my new job, my shopping habits now revolve around "work clothing". I constantly ask myself, can I wear said item to work? And if it works for work and the weekend, bonus points! Whether I went to the grocery store or out to happy hour, I loved dressing up this year!

Take Vitamins: So I never bought a pill organizer, thus my vitamin days lasted a mere month or so. I'm thinking if I take them to work, it can become part of my morning routine. Check my email, grab a cup of green tea, and take my vitamins. Sounds easy, right?

Sleep more: I think this year's lack of blogging should explain itself. I chose sleep over late night blogging sessions and it was wonderful.

Even though I didn't hit every 2014 resolution perfectly, I'm proud of my 2014. I decided to leave a job I wasn't happy with, started a job somewhere new, went to some amazing concerts, made new friends, ran my first 10K, explored Austin with my college besties, discovered feminism, had my first promotion, and chopped off my hair - twice! I took chances, pushed myself out of my comfort zone, went on new adventures, and you know what? I don't regret a single moment.

What Day Is It?

Remember when I wrote about what to wear to your holiday party? Either do I. This month has been filled with lots of socializing, laughter, and Christmas traditions. While it's been a great way to end the year, I definitely missed taking the time to sit down and write a post. Although I drafted a bunch couple of posts, I never got around to finishing them. So instead of deleting time well spent, I thought I'd share a recap of December as a whole. If you follow me on Instagram, you might recognize some of the pictures - but read along for the details!
I found this daily calendar for the 24 hour women and couldn't help but take a picture.

We had a white elephant at work and I was lucky enough to get this cozy little mug.

That mansion though. Holiday work party was amazing!

Have I ever mentioned Houndstooth or TacoDeli tacos? Trust me when I say they're heavenly. Fridays are quickly becoming breakfast taco Fridays.

After the first week, I had my first cold of the season. I slept a bunch, watched a ton of Gilmore Girls, and ate way more cuties than I can remember.

The following weekend, we made it to the living nativity show for our annual Christmas traditions!

We even made it to new Christmas events and heard the Austin Banjo Club play some holiday favorites!

To celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Gone with the Wind, my dad and I were lucky enough to attend the Paramount Theatre's showing!

This month's book features The Man Repeller herself! Excellent writing and sooooo funny.

Fulfilled a lifelong dream and took a pop pilates class with my fitness role model and popular youtuber, Cassey Ho! Also, we took a funny picture, so naturally we're besties now.

Made it to Zilker Park's annual Trail of Lights and got to wear santa's hat for the photo booth.

Painted probably my worst painting yet, but hung out with my marketing bestie at Pinot's Palette.

Guess who got a pretty white desk for Christmas? Now guess who's writing at her desk?? LOVE it.

Because I'm terrible and waited 10 months, I thought I should end the year with the haircut I kept telling myself I would get. Meet my new angled lob and subtle touch of side swept bangs!

Hope everyone had a lovely December, Christmas, and if I disappear again - Happy New Years lovelies!

Movie Inspired Holiday Party Style

December is finally here and that means Holiday parties. Don't know about you, but I loveee dressing up for these sort of events - plus, it's my favorite the most wonderful time of the year! Bright lights, happy music spending time with family, etc. I love it all.

In preparation for my own Holiday party(tomorrow night!), I searched high and low, but I had no luck didn't want to spend big. Instead I decided to wear an old favorite and bought a new necklace and lipstick! I can't tell you how awesome it felt when I swiped my card and it was less than $15. Sometimes it just takes a couple accessories and bam, a new outfit!

Even though I won't be donning a new holiday dress, I can still share a couple ideas, right? Especially when they're inspired by my favorite holiday flicks. Happy Holiday parties, lovelies!

Girl in the Red Hat

I may not have a favorite color, but when it comes to the Holidays, red is my go to color. Red lipstick, red dresses, red nail polish, etc. So when I found this gem last winter, I had to have to it. Not only does it save every bad hair day, it adds the perfect pop of color to any outfit - including today's #ootd.
Hat: Thrifted(Similar) || Top: F21(Similar) || Jeggings: AEagle || Boots: Bakers(Similar) || Purse: Thrifted(Similar)
After a countless number of saved bad hair days, I think another hat is worth the investment. Anyone else a fan of hats? I've got my eyes on this one. Here's to hoping it goes on sale this Black Friday!

22 Thoughts about the AMA's

Because I'm admittedly not good at Twitter and watched the AMA's a few hours late, I'm sharing my thoughts half a day later.

1. Pitbull cleans up NICE.
2. TSwift has the most supportive friends.
3. Magic and Wyclef Jean should have danced a little longer.
4. Enrique is the perfect filter.
5. You think they'd raise the microphone a little higher after Iggy Azalea has to bend down.
6. Sam Smith might not be my cup of tea, but he sounds amazing live.
7. Iggy Azalea has yet to come out with a song I don't like.
8. Lorde's performance makes me wish I saw Mockingjay this weekend.
9. Boy Bands will kick @$$ forever.
10. Pitbull and Neyo make the perfect team.
11. Selena Gomez, what a performance.
12. Why couldn't we see TSwift's face during the 1D performance?
13. I need a microphone like Nicki's.
14. As a proud swiftie, #CongratsTaylor.
15. Josh Duhamel is a sweetie.
16. Way to go Garth. Greensboro stadium was packed!
17. Mary J. Blige still has it going on.
18. Shark Tank people? They pick the most interesting people to present awards.
19. Why can't Pentatonix sing a song?
20. Every time Bang Bang is performed, it's flawless.
21. One Direction is great, but Artist of the Year - really?
22. Booty booty booty booty rocking everywhere.

Looking forward to next year, when TSwift is nominated again ;)

When does Hibernation start?

Just when I thought I mastered the art of waking up early to run, temperatures dropped. At first it was chilly, then I could see my breath, and a couple days later I was too cold to even get out of bed. I know running in 100 degrees isn't fun, but running in 30 degrees is even worse. Luckily it warmed up yesterday. The bad news is it's pouring outside, and will continue for most of the weekend. Guess it's another weekend of hibernating, right? Here's some fun links to get you through the weekend:

For a gal who doesn't wear makeup, I appreciate this video so much.

As if Mindy Kaling isn't awesome enough, enjoy some important life quotes for any situation.

I know the trailer for Cinderella is cute and all, but Blake Lively is making a comeback and this trailer gave me goosebumps!

When Harry Met Sally, Mindy Kaling, and BJ Novak are a few of my favorite things. So how did I never hear about this? I want more!

So this dress might be out of my budget, but that's what these are for right? After all, Holiday parities come once a year.

Not saying I have the perfect resting face, but this is almost too accurate. Especially 1, 3, 7, 12, 14, 18, 20, 22...

I have absolutely zero plans for my wedding someday, but this bouquet is just gorgeous.

This video only made me fall more in love with Michael BublĂ©. Happy Holidays, darlings.

November Wishlist

Is it too early to be searching for the perfect holiday dress? The cold won't go away and the holiday party invitations have been sent. In case you haven't heard, Free People released a new Holiday Collection and it's taking everything for me to not blow my shopping budget on one of these beauties, particularly this month's wishlist item...

Dress: As a major fan of drop-waist dresses and a lot of sparkle, this dress is perfection. And have you seen the back? You haven't seen a holiday party dress until you've seen this.

Card Holder: After attending a conference last week, I have realized trying to carry blogger and work business cards in one holder doesn't work too well. Not only is this option colorful and professional, it won't break the bank!

Hat: I love a good floppy hat, especially my red one, but I'm loving the neutral tone of this one. One can never have one too many hats, am I right?

Boots: After pulling out my shoes for the colder season, I started to notice I have nothing but black footwear. My closet however, is calling for a good pair of brown boots. When it comes to knee-high boots, the options are endless, but I can't get over the braided detail on this pair.

Booties: Yes, another pair of shoes. My favorite pair of booties had its final run last season and I've been on the search for a replacement. After checking the price on these leather booties at Marshall's, I knew it was meant to be, just like this.

Jeggings: These are it. The perfect pair for me. I went in store, tried them on, and then I saw the price tag. I'm searching the thrift stores, waiting for a major sale, or hoping for a gift card!

See what I did there? So discreet, I know. Anyways, just 10 more days till turkey day! Which means family, lots of pumpkin pie, and a possible shopping trip on black friday! Fingers crossed one of these items will go on sale ;)

New Hair

Remember when I chopped off my hair? Well, 10 months later and I'm officially at the awkward length. It might have started a couple weeks ago, but it's starting to drive me a little crazy. I like it down my back long or above the shoulders short. As much as I love being able to finally throw my hair in a bun, I'm itching for a new hairstyle. What that is, I can't quite decide. Side swept bangs, framed layers, angled cut, all one layer? There are pros and cons to each, but as long as I can run without hair in my face, it's all good. For now, I've got my eye on these styles.

side swept bangs
angled lob
choppy cut with side swept bangs
light and whispy bangs
angled lob
more side swept bangs
Side swept bangs or angled lob? Can't I have both? You know what would be just perfect, if my hair grew 5 inches overnight. Yes, I could deal with long hair again. The silly decisions when it comes to hair, am I right? How do you decide which haircut to go with? Any tips for growing out the awkward length? Fingers crossed I make a decision sooner than later. Oh, the struggles of indecisiveness.

We Never Go Out Of Style

Dress: Thrifted(Still in stores!) || Booties: Old Navy(Similar) || Purse: Old Navy(Similar) || Belt: Thrifted(Similar)
You'll have to excuse my unexpected TSwift 1989 hiatus. It's a routine, every time. Buy the cd, play the cd, read the cd booklet, and sing along. I love it! Sure, she went in a different direction, but how can you blame her? Each of us is changing in our own sort of way, am I right? This year alone has been full of new experiences, new friends, and new interests. Last year I was focused on trying new foods, building the "fall" wardrobe I never had, and getting back into reading.

After a quick trip to Uptown Cheapskate this weekend, I walked out with 2 new dresses and 1 new top - all of which were paisley. Paisley. I'm not sure when I decided paisley was cool again, but I'm totally feeling the fall colored patterns. Would last year's Melissa buy this dress? I'm not sure, but what I do know is fit and flare never goes out of style. ;)

Morton's Salt Girl Costume

You know how your birthday usually turns into week full of celebrating? Well, let's just pretend Halloween is the same way. Happy early Halloween! Today my work is hosting a Children's Halloween party and I get to wear the cutest pink cat ears. Still not sure if I'm dressing up on the actual day of Halloween, but until then, here's another classic Halloween costume you can easily wear again!

Have you seen this(scroll to the 15th pic)? After finding this, I want to make my own Morton Salt purse! Also, how cute is she?! Not only is this costume extremely easy, it's classy as can be. I may be partial to mustard colored things during fall, but seriously, this dress is the perfect pop of color for anytime of year, except Christmas, maybe? Again, yes to mustard flats! The umbrella might not be your everyday accessory, unless you live in Seattle, but it's practical and everyone needs a pretty umbrella. Add a simple necklace, light shade of nail polish, and don't forget your Morton Salt purse!

Fair warning, you might need to warn your friends about an open umbrella, especially if they're superstitious. After all, it is Halloween! If you decide to dress up, I hope you've found some inspiration. Don't forget to check out last year's ideas here, here, here, and here. Now we might not look as cute as Ms. Willow, but we can try right? Happy weekend, lovelies!

Fall '14

Guess who finally pulled out their "fall clothing"? This girl! The only thing is, last week's cold front has come and gone. I love the Texas heat, but I also love warm fall colors! It's hard to get in the fall mindset when every store is selling pretty sweaters, but you walk out to 80 plus degree weather. In the mean time, I've created a new list of seasonal goals for fall. Fingers crossed this will actually get me in the fall spirit!

Read 3 Non-Fiction books: With my recent interests in Feminism and actually keeping up with news around the world, I'd like to continue educating myself with non-fiction books. I gave in and purchased Lena's Not That Kind of Girl and have been blown away so far. I highly recommend it!

Become a Morning Runner: With daylight savings coming, I won't be able to run after work very often. Recently, I've started coming in to work early and getting in a workout. Turns out, it feels great! It might not be easy adjusting, but I'm willing to work towards...especially if I decide to run a half marathon. Oh gosh, have I gone crazy?

Go on a Hike: Even though the leaves haven't exactly changed colors, I can still go hiking - just preferably in the colder temps. Running the Austin trails is a lot of fun, but it's always nicer when you can actually take in the area around you. Hoping to plan a fun hike with friends sometime soon!

Find a Desk: I recently passed down my old desk to my little brother, leaving me desk-less. I won't lie, it's nice having the extra space and all, but I miss having my own space to write. After sprucing up my desk at work, I'd love to create a similar space for home. Blogging is so much more fun when you have a dedicated space.

Have a Pumpkin Milkshake: Going to college in the Northeast had its perks - an actual fall, a different culture, historical attractions, and my favorite - pumpkin milkshakes! It only lasted a couple weeks, but I made sure I visited our local diner plenty of times. Since I've been back in Austin, I have to yet to try another pumpkin milkshake that comes close. Might have to make my own, huh? Look out for a recipe this fall ;)

I don't know about you, but I'm getting excited now! These might not all be fall related, but it's a new season and that means new changes, right? What's on your list of things to do this fall? Have you made any new goals or a fun a bucket list? Anyone know of the perfect pumpkin milkshake recipe? Happy Thursday, fellow dreamers!

Queen Elsa Costume

Just two more weeks until Halloween! Time to stock up on the goodies and make sure your costume is complete - the Halloween parties will be here before you know it. This week's theme revolves around my favorite Disney movie of the year. Granted, Disney doesn't come out with many cartoon movies every year, but this film blew me away - and the rest of the world. I still hear "Let It Go" on the radio. Still. Not that I'm complaining or anything, but I digress.

Luckily, Queen Elsa's costume doesn't take much at all! The pieces I chose might only work for summer, but who wouldn't love an aqua maxi dress next season? Add a sparkly cape or your favorite sheer cardigan and the costume is almost complete! I added a blue necklace and a white pair of heels to create a more complete look. Also, Olaf because he's the best and a total giveaway for your costume. Lastly, a bright lipstick because every queen needs a pop of color. Whether you're blond or not, just gather your hair to one side and braid away. If it's short, maybe try a clip-on? Bonus points for a messy braid!

After putting this costume together, I can't help but think I want to dress up as Queen Elsa. My work is hosting a children's Halloween party and Queen Elsa would be a hit, am I right? Plus, my desk is the first stop for all the trick-or-treaters. Getting so excited just thinking about the candy it! Did I mention I like Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Kids? Taking candy donations from now until Halloween ;) Happy Friday, fellow dreamers!

October Wishlist

October Wishlist
1989 || Coat || Book || Purse || Heels || Sweater
I know this month is Halloween, but if yesterday's post didn't give any indication, I'm way more excited for TSwift's new album release! Shake it off was a great song and all, but Out of the Woods is even better - and sort of reminds me of her original sound, even if she's going pop. And how awesome is it that she's sharing a lyric from every song as a countdown to the album?!? I know, I'm obsessed. See how this went from a monthly wishlist intro to a #fangirl moment? #sorrynotsorry As it is, TSwift takes the spot of two wishlist items...

1989 : It's a given. 11 more days, y'all. 11 days!!!

Plaid Coat: Having a black peacoat is nice, except for when your dog sheds hair everywhere. I can't count the number of times I tried to remove my dog's hair last winter, but I do not want go through this again. Plaid(patterned) coats hide this much better, plus TSwift has one and it seems to go with everything, see here. So many colors, so many choices!

Not That Kind of Girl: This year has been a big eye opener when it comes to feminism and I love having role models of my generation to learn from.  She's honest and doesn't care what you or I think. If that's not inspiring, I don't know what is. Can't wait to read her stories!

Purse: So my favorite purse has a gigantic hole inside. Not visible to others, but it's driving me crazy. I thought I'd downsize, but just look at this beauty. All I see is the impossible possibility of an organized bag with pockets for my phone and keys. And those colors, just perfection. Thanks to the weekend sale, I used my Ruche gift card and ordered this bag at a steal.

Patent Heels: I love dressing up for work, which usually entails heels - at least 4 days a week. Sometimes I get into the habit of wearing the same shoes everyday and eventually I wear them out. After this summer's heels wore out, I needed something new and sturdy. Instead of investing, I bought some of Payless' new comfort plus shoes. I must say though, I'm impressed so far. For pointy shoes, these beauties are comfortable. Fingers crossed they last a while!

Mustard Sweater: My obsession with mustard colored pieces has yet to end. In continuous search of the perfect cable knit sweater, I may have finally found the best of both worlds wrapped into one beautiful piece. Mustard sweaters have swarmed the online shopping world recently, but everywhere it's SOLD OUT. Sometimes you just have to walk in store, cross your fingers, and hope that last sweater is your size. When you find it, it's just meant to be, right?

I promise I'll get back to Halloween later this week, but tell me, what's on your monthly wishlist?  Any TSwift fans excited for the daily lyric revelations? Has anyone finished Lena's book yet? For all you working girls, where's your favorite place to buy a staple pair of black heels - but at a reasonable price? Happy hump day, lovelies!

Post Surgery Reads

So this was the post I planned before my wisdom teeth surgery, except I forgot to hit "publish".  I'm still reading the books, so I'm posting it today, with a few changes. Enjoy!

Happy 14th day of October! Today I have the unfortunate pleasure having my wisdom teeth removed. It won't be pretty, but it's necessary - or so the doctors have said. Thankfully, my wisdom teeth was quick and easy. Anyways, to get through the boredom and pain, I've been putting together a reading list. The pain on the other hand, terrible. Just TERRIBLE. I can't say it enough, but it was terrible. Short, because I'm a slow reader and also because Gilmore Girls is finally available on Netflix! I'm glad I had these books but seriously, Good books vs. good episodes? #Priorities, y'all. I definitely indulged in some GG episodes, but check out my current reads!

The Best of Me: Wouldn't you know, another Before the Screen book. The last Nicholas Sparks book I read was The Last Song, don't judge. It was a beautiful story. I'm in 3 chapters and so far, so good. Finished the book last week and I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. All I can say, is Nicholas Sparks makes me cry, every time. Let's just hope this movie actually lives up to the book, unlike the other.

Bossypants: Because I never finished it last year and I remember laughing out loud a couple times. Tina Fey's hilarious, witty, and practically besties with Amy Phoehler - so jealous(speaking of, can't wait for her book!!!).  Here's to finishing this book a second third time around. Laughter is the best medicine, right?  Started from the beginning yesterday, but I'm laughing like it's the first time - love it.

Eleanor & Park: Not quite sure where I heard about it, but it was on my reading list and the synopsis sounds wonderful. Boy meets girl, first love, star-crossed misfits, etc. Did I mention I'm a hopeless romantic? Haven't started it yet, but it's next!

So this is where I leave you. A short list of reads I hope to start and maybe even finish! In case you're wondering about "Lean In", I'll be honest - I haven't finished it yet.  Don't you just love how I jump from book to book without finishing it?  Me too.  Let me just say, it was such a good read, but eventually my rental expired and I was left e-bookless, again.  Even if I don't finish all of these books in the next week, here's to hoping I can get through them by the end of the year! Once I'm through with these, I'm hoping to get my hands on Lena's new book and possibly Amy's book - then I'll get back to "Lean In". Saving the best for last, right?

P.S. Speaking of Lena, have you seen this? #ASKLENA

P.S.S. Because 1989 can't come out soon enough, look out for TSwift's newest single "Out of the Woods"!

Garden Fairy Costume

Happy Friday, darlings. With Halloween just a few weeks away, I've decided to show off some weekly costume inspiration again this year!  I would've started last Friday, however, my wisdom teeth surgery didn't leave me in quite the writing condition. Best of all, the pre-surgery post I prepared never published! Way to go, Melissa. Anyways, back to the Halloween fun.

This week's costume takes me back to high school, when I got to experiment with makeup! The mystical look of fairies usually has to do with all the sparkle and glitter, doesn't it? All I needed was a simple tunic, pair of colorful wings, fun tights, and some slippers. For a frugal gal, all I had to purchase were the wings. I know it's silly to spend so much on something you'll only wear once, but I must admit I've worn this costume for more than one Halloween. Besides the makeup, the other costume accessories are practically essentials - so you're good to go!

Just like last year, I plan on keeping accessories simple, because I can't tell you how much I love being able to re-wear these items. Makes the purchase worth it, am I right? This dress could totally be worn as a Greek goddess costume too - so many options! If you have any costume questions or have a suggestion for a new costume, let me know. I'll be whipping up another costume idea for next Friday!

End of Summer

Austin Sunset :)
Guess who's feeling inspired...this girl! I recently shared the big news of my promotion, but shortly after I was working longer days. To avoid the stress, I started running a little more often. The weather is perfect, I work close enough to the beautiful Austin trails, and it's always nice to change up the scenery. And while most of my friends would never believe it, I've actually been waking up early to run. Running highs are great at any time of day, but I have to admit, it feels just a tad bit better when you've completed your workout before 9 am.

With daylight savings upon us, I'm hoping to turn this running experiment into a seasonal goal.  Speaking of seasonal goals, I've decided to start a new list for fall. I know it's a couple days past the fall equinox, but this is Texas and it's 90 degrees outside. In the mean time, I've decided to wrap up my attempt of a summer goals list.

100 Miles Challenge: Nope. Considering I ran a total of 11 miles in July, the goal was doomed. After spending a pretty penny on a summer yoga pass, I wanted to get my money's worth. I don't regret it one bit, but trying to get back in running shape isn't easy. If you count the miles I ran from June till now, I definitely reached my goal. Let's go with that, shall we?

Share a Summer Snack recipe on the blog: Done! I shared my banana blueberry ice-cream recipe last month and I may have whipped it up 3 or 5 times since. Did I mention I'm forgetful with bananas? Oh well, more ripe banana means more ice-cream for me!

Stick to my brand new budget: Can't say I've followed my budget to a tee, but I will say it's helped a ton.  Reviewing your spending habits every once in a while helps you rethink your next purchase.  For example, when you accidentally eat out for lunch everyday of the week, you realize it might be better to bring lunch for the whole next week. #guilty

Spend more time outside: This goal was half and half. I didn't swim as much as I normally do, but I definitely spent a good amount of time in the sunshine. That's what summer is all about, am I right?

Get a facial: Wahhh. Totally forgot about this goal. I did however, create a home ingredients face mask. It might not have the same benefits, but DIY's are fun and I can always get a facial next time.  Let the Groupon hunt begin...

Hold a Rabbit: So this might not have been in my original goals list, but let's be honest - it's always my goal. Hanging out at the petting zoo in the hot weather was completely worth it. Rabbits are cute and cuddly and I want one sooooo badly.

Sad to see summer ending, but I'm so excited for the cooler weather. Fall makes seasonal goals that much more fun, especially when the food, fashion, and weather is a hundred times nicer. Should I ever get back to sharing my style adventures, you'll be the first to see.  I may or may not have bought some new fall pieces, so here's to new outfit inspiration. Happy Tuesday fellow dreamers!

September Wishlist

September
Dress || Print || Planner || Booties || Tea || Mug
Happy Music Tuesday!  Tuesdays are great, y'all. Still early in the week, but not exactly Monday, and a ton of new songs/albums are released! Nothing may have caught my eye this week, but in just 5 weeks and 6 days, 1989 is officially out! Yes, just 40 days until TSwift's new album is all mine. As much as I wish it was already October 27, this month's wishlist is full of pretty little things to keep me occupied until then.

Dress: A little fall dress never hurt nobody, especially a smock dress. I just want to spin and twirl every time I try one on. And those colors? Hello colorful tights!

Print: This one's for all you Office fans. Pam's final lines(1:16) of the series are just beautiful. I NEED this in my new soon to be office space.

Planner: You guys, I think I found The One. I've searched high and low, but I can't resist these colors. Also, I love being in control of every detail. A little steep, I know, but this deserves to be a splurge, am I right?

Booties: Black booties, check. Faux suede and leather, yes please.

Tea: I love a good green tea, but Birchbox hit the spot with this little treat. Ordering these ASAP.

Mug: Another treat for my desk? I think yes. I've been obsessing over this mug since the day The Everygirl shop opened, I think it's time I start a mug collection.

I know Fall isn't quite here(in Austin), but there's just something about switching my color palette that makes me excited for the cooler weather. Any of you feel the same way? I'm a sucker for suede, wine and mustard colors, or a bold red hat. What's on your wish list, lovelies?

Just Because...

I don't talk enough about the Hunger Games and I know you're all desperately wanting to see the trailer again and again. Happy Monday!

Friday Link Love

Happy Friday, lovelies. Guess who's a busy busy bee? Me. The good news, I've been promoted!! The bad news, nothing really, except that I've started typing double spaces after periods in work emails and find myself backspacing for the blog. #bloggerprobs. Anyways, it's Friday! Even though I've been MIA, I've been keeping up with my favorite blogs and finding super cool stuff to share with you. Some might be a few days old, but at least it's not two weeks old, like my last blog post. #oops

You don't know how long I've waited for this. I can finally finish the series, uninterrupted.

Thinking about planning a big trip for 2015. Wouldn't it be nice to travel here? Let's pretend I'm Lena and it's #SisterhoodOfTheTravelingPants.

My search for the perfect planner may finally come to an end. My sweet co-worker introduced me to this beauty of the world wide web.

I'm sort of obsessed with the 73 questions youtube videos, but this might be my favorite yet.

Lean In

Now that Pretty Little Liars is on hiatus, I have nothing to watch.  I took a look at my reading list and realized a common theme - women in the workplace/feminism and then the usual young adult fiction love story.  Honestly, I had planned on writing another "Before the Screen" post, because seriously - so many awesome book/movies are coming out this fall, but then I started reading "Lean In".

I'm only a couple pages in, but so far it's awesome.  As a recent grad and young woman trying to find myself in the real world, this book has lots of advice.  What I admire most, is Sheryl's style of writing.  She's not pretending to be miss perfect, it's genuine and honest.  Her title might be CEO, but I'm sure she worked hard for it.  This is all I know so far, so I'll leave you with this and get back to reading.  All you ladies and recent grads should check it out too!  Anyone read it before?  What are your thoughts?  Happy Thursday, fellow dreamers!

Bananas for Blueberry Ice Cream

Yum!
You know when bananas get spotty and lose all appeal, even when your friends keep telling you ripe bananas are the best?  Trust me, I get it.  The moment I see a big spot, I can't eat it.  I let it sit and yeah, eventually it becomes smelly and/or completely spotted.  Now if you're like me, this happens more often than not.  Sometimes you forget how many are left and then you're stuck with one too many ripe bananas.  Of course you could throw them away, but them your trash gets smelly too.

Solution: Make ICE CREAM!

Banana ice cream that is.  Not only is it sweet and delicious, it's healthy and light.  Guess how many ingredients? Just one!  Unless you want flavoring, it's just bananas!  No longer do I feel guilty eating ice cream out of the container.  Also because I only make enough for one or two servings, but I digress.  I'm so excited to share my little recipe with you!  Besides snocones, this has been my favorite frozen treat of the summer.  My recipe might include a couple extra ingredients, but only for extra flavor.  Feel free to add whatever you like and most of all, enjoy!

Ingredients:
2 RIPE Bananas
1/4 Cup of Blueberries
1 Tsp of Cinnamon Sugar

Instructions:
1. Peel and slice bananas into 4 sections.
2. Leave bananas in freezer for 2 - 3 hours or until almost frozen.
3. Blend the bananas for 30 seconds.
4. Add blueberries and cinnamon sugar.
5. Blend for 1 minute.
6. Enjoy! If you like your ice cream frozen, place in freezer for an extra 30 minutes.

P.S. I know it's only three photos, but I finished my bowl before I remembered to take more.  #sorrynotsorry

Flashback Friday

I know most people follow #ThrowbackThursday, but what about the rest of us who are always one day late? Especially when you're sick.  Don't know about you, but I usually go off on tangents - more than I usually do - when I'm sick.  This week has been full of interesting conversations to say the least, but I digress. Thank goodness for #FlashbackFriday, am I right?

In honor of #FlashbackFriday and last night - did I tell you what happened?  I went to a 90's Boy Band sing-a-long!  That's right. N*SYNC, the Backstreet Boys, and more!  Also, NKOTB - except they don't really count in my book. It makes me feel both old and young, but let's just go with the latter for now.  Anyways, it was fantastic.  It felt like I was at a real concert!  Brings me back to my first concert ever, when I saw the Backstreet Boys.  All I remember was Howie flying over us, the live version of "Larger than Life" because duh and my mom yelling at these crazy girls to stop stepping us.  Quite the experience, but the reason I'm a concert aficionado and #fangirl of almost everything today.  So, to celebrate the memories and a Happy Friday - I'm sharing my top five music videos of the 90's, Boy Bands only of course.  Look out for a surprise video at the bottom ;)

August Wishlist

Happy Friday, lovelies. Who's ready for the weekend? This girl. Surprisingly, this week has been the busiest work week all year - yet this is my third post this week. Funny how that happens, right? Not gonna knock it though, I'm loving this writing kick!

Anyways, let's get to the good stuff. This month's wish list is all about shoes and accessories. I'd include clothing, but August is weird.  It's still too hot for fall clothes and there's no use in buying any new summer clothes. Alas, it's the perfect excuse to add to my shoe and accessories collection!

Black Flats*: Remember last October? Either do I.  All I know is I've been searching for the perfect ankle flats since then. After months and months of not settling, I've found the perfect shoes! They're suede, d'orsay styled, ankle strap, and have the cutest cutouts along the front. Perfection.

Earrings: I love my fake pearls and studs, but it's always nice having a good pair of pink earrings.  I already wear them with everything.

Bracelet: My bracelet collection is quite limited. Limited to two actually. Sad I know, especially for someone who wants to wear a bunch at once. Luckily, I received this Kendra Scott statement bracelet in a swag bag. It might be just one, but it's one more than I had before!  Isn't it lovely?

Watch: I'm always that girl, the one always asking "what time is it?" Again, I'm currently limited to two, so I'm looking for a new one.  Might just jump on the pineapple trend bandwagon and order myself this beauty!

Rust Flats: One season word, fall.

Running Shoes: If you're following me on instagram, you may have caught a glimpse of my newest babies. After 12 months and a few hundred miles later, I decided to retire my old shoes. Taking it seriously this time, I went to the running store to get fitted. Once the shoe fit, I got the name and went online to order last season's version of the shoe. Turns out last year's shoe had a better color selection - just look at those colors.

I know, soooo many shoes. What's on your wish list this month? Do you stock up on fall clothes or take it easy during the awkward month?  Cheers to a fun filled weekend!

P.S. This Sunday is National Thriftstore Day - make sure to thrift to your heart's content ;)

*The flats I purchased were not available online, but this picture is similar. Also, I bought mine from F21.

Resolutions Check In

It may be August already, but let's just pretend it's July for a second, okay?  It's still the second half of the year, so let's check in on my new years resolutions.  Confession: I still have yet to purchase a planner.  So as I write this, I no longer have any idea what my new years resolutions are.  I do remember I wanted "to sleep more", but honestly speaking, I am always working on this.  Thank goodness for blogger archives, right?

Let's look back shall we...

Read more: I haven't done the best job.  My goal was to get through at least 12 books and I'm barely at 2.  I remember reading The Fault in Our Stars, Divergent, and...?  Yeah, not so good.  I start off ambitious and begin a bunch of books, but then I have a hard time finishing them.  I'm currently reading Insurgent - the second book to Divergent, fingers crossed I finish this soon!

Volunteer more:  I'm still volunteering with a local animal shelter, but I have to admit I've stopped helping out at the food bank.  I loved helping out - I just haven't participated in a while.  Luckily, living in the Austin community means plenty of volunteer opportunities.  Hoping I can help out this local organization during the 2014-2015 school year.

Run more:  I made it to the 10K!  It was quite the challenge, but crossing the finish line is something I'll always remember.  My running routine might have fallen off track once I started taking yoga classes, but I'm still running.  Thanks to my new running shoes and socks, I feel invincible every time I hit the pavement.

Dress up more: This goal may be my biggest success of the year, so far.  Working in a professional setting certainly helps, but incorporating my personal style into the workplace has been the best opportunity to experiment with color blocking, mixing prints, etc.  Be on the look out for career inspired outfits very soon!

Take vitamins: Short and sweet, I haven't taken a vitamin in weeks.  Take that back, one second ago.  How about those gummy vitamins...?  Sounds like an incentive already ;)

Sleep more: Can't lie, I've had my share of good and bad weeks this year.  With the recent blogging hiatuses, I've had plenty of sleep.  Not that I'm blaming blogging on my poor sleep patterns, but the truth is, I'm an evening writer and I can't won't go to sleep until my post is complete.  Any other bloggers the same way?

I might not be following every resolution perfectly, but I'm proud of the progress I've made so far.  The rest only leaves room for improvement, right?  Did you make any new years resolutions for 2014?  Whether or not you've stuck with them, just remember they're goals - not rules you have to follow.  Here's to running my life away, extra zzz's, and lots of laughter for the rest of 2014!

Scared

Hey there dear reader.  It's been a while.  And as much as I can't stand starting off my posts with some "I'm tired" or "Work is so busy", it's true.  Some of the time at least.  The other half of the time I'm sitting in front of my computer reading nonsense because I'm too scared to hit "new post".  I worry that it will be too short, too bland, or worst of all, not "me".

It's not easy being a blogger when you are your worst critic.  And so I worry.  Am I writing as the me I am or the me I want you to see read?  If you met me, would you be thrown off or would I be The Blushing Dreamer?  I thought long and hard before creating this blog, especially in deciding the title. It might not be the most clever, but it fit me.  I've said it before, but I'm shy.  I get embarrassed easily and blush way too much for reasons unknown(mostly unknown).  I'm also a dreamer.  I believe in miracles, second chances, happily ever afters, and pink.  These are the things I've mentioned time and time again.  That is who you know.  The truth is, I've never really written more than the typical "about me".  Yes, everything is true - but it doesn't tell you that I'm easily-entertained, sarcastic, stubborn, a worrier, or terribly gullible.  There's obviously more to me than just words, but writing is my favorite form of expression.

I feel confident when I write.  I might be one out of a million bloggers, but I love it.  I know I can't make everyone happy, and it's similar in hoping you see me as I am.  I don't want to be impersonal or write fluff, but speaking honestly - it's happened.  I'm not proud of it and they are obviously not my most popular posts, but here's to change.  Like the start of a new school year, I'm attempting a clean slate and leaving the fluff in the past.  I'm going to write when I want to write and not feel bad about taking a day off, or even a week.  This isn't a second job - it's a hobby and I want it to stay that way.  I'm not promising a regular blog schedule or my life story anytime soon, but I want to be authentic and most importantly, me.

Breaking the Rules

Romper: Marshall's (Similar) || Purse: Old Navy (Similar) || Belt: Thrifted (Similar)
Booties: Anthropologie || Bracelet: BCBG || Earrings: Forever 21 (Similar)
I'm soooo excited to finally share my favorite romper of the summer. Now where did I find this beauty, you ask? The one and only Marshall's! Serious #fabfound right here. Being the frugal shopper that I am, I have a difficult time paying full price for anything - the item must be less than $15 or some crazy percentage off. Sadly, at $16.99 this romper broke both of my rules. I didn't have store credit or an extra gift card, but it was only $2 off, so I bought it anyway. Best buy of the summer! I've worn it numerous times already and it’s still my favorite piece in my closet. Did I mention it goes perfectly with the booties of my dreams? Talk about a summer staple.

What's your favorite summer staple? Do you have your own rules when it comes to shopping? I'd love to hear them. Happy hump day, y'all!

Lovely Links Friday

Little Texas in my teacup :)
I know I mentioned an outfit post, but guess who decided to get sick in the middle of vacation?  That's right, this girl.  And in the middle of summer, no less.  No fun, y'all, no fun.  Between taking naps and blowing my nose all week, I spent the rest of my time catching up with the world wide web.  It's been a while, so why not share my favorite links on this lovely friday?

Rule of Three: If you haven't heard of the Unfancy capsule wardrobe yet, it's a must read.  Personally, I'm not sure if it's something I could stick to, but for now, I'm loving this "rule of three".  It's a good starting point for aspiring minimalists like myself.

Shoes: They might not be this summer's hottest trend, but I was in dire need.  When you feel like you're running barefoot, something's not right.  My feet were fitted, my running observed, and now I await my dream pair of shoes!

President Candidates: Politics and real people aside, I thought this was hilarious.  I'm a little sad Luke Skywalker beat out Yoda, but then again, who doesn't love a witty article?

Mary Poppins Quits: Again, politics aside - how cute is this video?  First she can act, then she sings, and now she can pull of Mary Poppins?  So jealous.  And whether you agree with it or not, you must admit the song was brilliant.

Chains: No shame, I totally fangirled over the Jonas Brothers in high school.  And I'll be the first to admit I was distraught a bit sad when they broke up, but I digress.  If you liked Nick(the talented one) at all, give this a listen - it's different, but surprisingly good.

Pasta: Doesn't it look delicious?  Asparagus, yum; lemon flavor, yum; pasta, yes please.  Minimalist Baker is genius. I can't get enough of these easy ingredient recipes.  Have I mentioned I'm an aspiring minimalist?

Lastly, a quick adios to Indiana Adams from Adored Austin, aka the brains behind Texas Style Council.  If any of you Austinites are free this evening, make sure to RSVP and say bye to one of Austin's blogger legends.  Luckily, I'm feelings tons better, my voice is back, and I can make it!  So excited to hangout with blogger friends and perhaps, find some new blogging inspiration. Happy Friday, lovelies.
