Springtime Floral Skirt

Just when I felt Spring was here, the clouds rolled in with a serious cold front. Oh, Austin. I can't say I'm surprised, but a girl can dream, right? Luckily, warmer weather is headed our way once again. Just in time for Snowcone season! That's right, y'all. March 1st is just around the corner. It's also pretty much the first day of Spring in Austin. Fingers crossed it actually stays warm!

Sweater: H&M (old) || Skirt: Forever 21 (old) || Booties: Old Navy || Watch: Lulu's || Rings: Aldo
With the temperatures still making up their mind, it's time to start creating those transition outfits between winter and spring. I usually think back to the transition between fall and winter, minus the darker tones. As if the long hair doesn't give it away, these outfit photos were taken a while ago. This was one of my favorite outfits during the winter, along with my green ribbed tights, but it never quite made it on the blog. Soon after I took the photos, the polar vortex hit and this outfit wasn't looking so realistic anymore - especially with those leaves!

Now that Spring's just around the corner, it's the perfect time to share this outfit! With floral prints still on trend, this girl is one happy camper. Not gonna lie, this skirt is super old; but I could wear it forever! I paired it with my sparkly sweater to leave the focus on the floral print and added my taupe booties because again, they go with everything! I'll be sad to put them away for summer, but I can't forget about the booties of my dreams. I'll be wearing those booties all summer long.

What are your favorite winter to spring transition pieces? Are you loving all the floral prints this season? I don't know about you, but my floral print collection has been a wonderful investment with this everlasting trend. Might as well add a couple more pieces this season, am I right? If things continue, florals are never going out of style. Happy Thursday, lovelies!

A Personal Gift

If you haven't noticed yet, my hair has become a reoccurring theme here on the blog. It took a long time before I felt comfortable in my hair. To this day I still have my moments, better known as "bad hair days". Growing up, I believed that my "hair" defined my beauty. For a girl who wore no makeup and knew nothing of fashion, I was convinced my hair could make all the difference. Looking back now, I realize how naive I was. It's me who defines my beauty: my words, my thoughts, my values and the confidence I walk with. I realize now, I'm blessed to have a head full of hair - no matter the color, texture, or length. And so at the end of last summer, I decided it was time to grow out my hair a little longer for Locks of Love.

After the cut
As usual, it was a hot summer here in Austin. I was sporting braids and buns on the daily. Anything to keep my hair long and my neck cool, am I right? When the polar vortex hit, it was hair down and warm scarves everyday. I was fortunate for the extra layer of warmth beneath my scarf. As the weeks went on, my hair continued to grow little by little. During the holidays, I started researching donation requirements, austin hair stylists, and shorter hairstyles. I was aiming to donate in early March, but after the 1837594th pin of short hair, I decided it was all or nothing.

After working on President's day, I drove straight to Bird's Barbershop(a must for all you Austinites!) and chopped of 14 inches. As I sat in the chair, I waited anxiously. Was I crazy? Could I really pull this off? Would I miss the length? Two pairs of scissors and a razor later, it was gone. And you know what? It was liberating and a serious eyeopener.

12 inches sent to Locks of Love
In the past I may have donated clothing, given blood, or contributed to charity; but nothing felt as real or personal until this moment. I may have selfishly complained about my hair growing up, but I was fortunate to be healthy. I can't imagine the idea of losing my hair to alopecia or cancer. Still, it happens to children and adults everyday. Thanks to Locks of Love, children are given an extra boost of confidence with each wig. From what we take for granted, these kids are given a second chance.

Donating to Locks of Love is an incredible gift and I highly recommend it. Depending on your hair type, I know it can take a while to grow out, but it's worth it. Stay strong and remember why you made the decision. And if you're like me and have never had short hair before, maybe it's time for a change? You'll never know until you try it out. So take a chance, call your stylist and set up an appointment ladies! It's the perfect time if you need a cut for summer ;) Happy Friday!

DIY: Tassel Garland

Some tassel garland for my room!
My first DIY of the year is finally here! With all the office/desk decor inspiration lately, I've been itching to create my own tassel garland. I originally planned on making some garland for my desk space at work, but by the time I finished, it was decided my room needs some too. And why not? It's easy, chic and adds the perfect pop of color to any area. If you're in need of some new home decor, pull out some tissue paper and get to crafting with my DIY!

Tissue Paper (got a whole packet at the dollar store!)
String (found in my craft drawer)
Total Cost: $1

1. Fold a tissue paper sheet in half
2. Fold the sheet in half to make a square
3. Fold the sheet in half to make a rectangle
4. Leaving 1-2 inches at the folded top, cut thin strips across the sheet
5. Unfold the sheet once and cut the sheet in half
At this point you should have two thin sheets with cut strips and a larger sheet that needs to be cut in half.
6. Cut larger sheet in half
7. Gently roll-up each sheet from the middle
8. Tightly twist the middle of each sheet
9. Fold the twisted part to create a circle
10. Tightly twist the middle until the circle is small enough for the string

Repeat steps 1-10 for each color sheet and then add to string. Depending on the string size, you may need to leave a smaller or bigger hole for each tassel. Feel free to get creative and pick as many colors as you like! Just remember, each sheet makes four tassels.

Hope you enjoyed this DIY project! I don't know about you, but I'm already picking out the color scheme for my next tassel garland. Aren't they the cutest? Makes me want to throw a party, that way I have places to hang all the extra tassels ;) Thanks for reading and let me know if you have any questions or don't understand a step, I'd be happy to help! Happy Thursday, lovelies!

With less than two months away from my first 10K, I’m starting to realize what I signed up for. The number is starting to scare me all over again. I’ve had both good and bad days while training, but I still haven’t found a consistent routine that works for me. Adjusting to this new work schedule is taking a little longer than expected. If anything, I've definitely been feeling more creative! But while my editorial list continues to grow, I’m struggling to find a balance between running and writing.

To create my own source of inspiration, I've put together a fitspiration board. One of my favorite fitness bloggers, Cassey Ho from Blogilates, came up with a great idea to create your own inspiration piece this month. By this time of year, many of us fall off the new year's resolutions wagon. If you're holding strong, kudos to you! It's not easy sticking with resolutions, but creating your own source of inspiration can be helpful. Whether it's a fun playlist, a new pinterest board, or a picture collage; you gotta pick what works for you!

Shoes: I love me a good pair of running shoes, especially with all the bright colors! These aren't so bright, but did you see the purple leopard print? Two of my favorite things together, yes please.

Headphones: I prefer listening to music when I run, but I appreciate a good pair of headphones that stay put during the whole run. These Beats headphones might be way out of my price range, but did I mention they're sweat-resistant? How cool is that!

TKO - JT: I don't know what it is, but this song is my favorite running jam. It might have to do with JT talking about me training for the gold or my crazy bod, jk. But seriously, the way he sings the chorus is super catchy, am I right? #fangirlproblems

Blogilates Tank: Cassey Ho has come up with a bunch of great fitness quote tanks, but this one is specifically for running. It also has hearts, my weakness. As of now, I have a billion t-shirts and one motivation shirt. I think this situation calls for a Blogilates tank!

Quote: It's not so much a quote, but it's definitely a daily reminder of how healthy living results in a healthy body. It takes both healthy food choices and regular exercising to be the best that we can be!

Half-Marathon Sticker: I know I'm only training for a 10k, but a half marathon is my ultimate goal for the year. I can't wait for the day I can place that sticker on my own vehicle. I can already see it ;)

Cute dog: Running has always been a great way to clear my mind, but it's also a great way to get my dog some exercise. It's a great motivation when you've got a canine buddy! It might take some training at first, but once they've got the hang of it, you've got yourself a new running partner.

Have you kept up with your resolutions this year? How do you stay motivated? If you make your own inspiration board, feel free to leave the link. I'd love to see them! Happy Tuesday, fellow dreamers!
P.S. I donated my hair yesterday, 14 inches gone! See new hair HERE :)

Valentine's Day Mix 2014

Let's just pretend this is my album cover ;)
Happy Valentine’s Day! Whether you’re single, it’s complicated, or taken, just remember today is another day. Best of all, it’s Friday! I’m not hating on the “Hallmark Holiday”, because trust me, I love all the sweets and flowers just as much as the next gal, but loving yourself and others is for everyday!

As a hopeless romantic, I love the handwritten notes and sappy chick flicks, but my favorite part of holiday is a little tradition I started during college. I created Valentine's Day CD's of my favorite romantic songs for the year. Some old, some new, and some you've probably never heard of. I like to create a sense of variety, although I must admit, it usually consists of my latest obsession. And my latest genre obsession goes to Country! But seriously though, there might be one too many country songs this year. It's hard to narrow it down when they're all so romantic.

As much as I still love CD's, I figured Spotify would be the easiest way to share my Valentine's Day 2014 playlist with you, my friends, and family! You can play it on your phone, computer, or car stereo if it's fancy like that. If you check it out, let me know what you think! What are some of your favorite love songs? Any special plans for tonight? Have a lovely weekend, fellow dreamers!

February Wishlist

I know Valentine's Day is just a day away, but I'm still completely focused on my new job. Getting to decorate my own space and dress up everyday has been a joy so far. I've been feeling a bit more creative and can't wait to share new posts! Just need to work on the whole "time" thing, but I digress. With all the excitement of my new position, this month's wishlist just turned Working Girl edition.

Hat: For starters, I've never been much of a hat person. I always thought my head was shaped funny, thus I strayed from all headwear. After pinning several fall and winter outfits, I started to notice all the floppy colored hats. After trying on a bunch of hats the past couple weeks, I finally found the one! It's red, fits well, and best of all, saves me from a bad hair day!

Print: Decorating my desk space has been delightful, but I think it'd look even better with a pretty print like this one. I'm pretty much obsessed with all of Jessica's prints, like this and this, but this one is a real confidence booster for the workplace. I'd love to have a copy for some daily inspiration!

Mug: Drinking hot tea has officially become part of my morning routine, but drinking from a black mug can be a little dull. Until I make some more DIY mugs, I've been searching for mugs with a little more flare. This is the perfect mug to brighten up my (mon)day and keep me in a cheery mood!

Heels: To this day, I've never owned a nude pair of shoes. I alway managed with the neutral colors, black, brown, leopard print, etc. After purchasing my taupe booties this fall, I've realized the options that come with lighter colored shoes. Not only do they match everything, they work year round too! These nude heels would go lovely for work or a casual day in jeans.

Nail Polish: As a nail polish addict, I'm constantly in search of the newest shade in pink. Have you seen Essie's Spring collection yet? The "resort fling" is perfect for spring and summer with the coral color. Just imagine how cute your toes would look in this shade and in the sand!

Desk Lamp: To be completely honest, I actually purchased this lamp at the end of last month. It's soooo pretty when it's all lit up, but very limited in lighting. It became more of a movie/tv lamp than a reading lamp, and so it sat on the corner of my shelf. To add some decor to my desk space, I brought the lamp to work! I still don't use the light, but the purple color adds the perfect touch.

What's on your wish list this month? Find any Valentine's day colored items you need to have? Have you planned your V-day outfit yet or are you winging it? Happy Thursday, lovelies!

Return of the Mustard Skirt

Blouse & Skirt: Thrifted (Banana Republic) & (The Limited) || Booties & Tights: Old Navy || Watch: Lulu's
Oh goodness. It feels like weeks since I've written. If you recall, I recently started a new job with a different schedule. I work a little later and a little farther from home than my previous job, which means one thing: traffic. Add in my 10K training and dinner, and I'm in for a long night ahead. While I missed writing, I chose sleep first. Sticking with my new year's resolution, right? It's going to be an interesting adjustment, but like I said before, I'm seriously counting down the days till March 9.

On a more positive note, my job is great! I even have to get to dress up! Wearing professional clothing was required as uniform during my high school days, but now I've got a couple more options. Goodbye black, brown, and navy; hello colors! One of my favorite work essentials has been my mustard skirt. Do you remember the thrifted story? I know it's been a couple months, but as promised, I finally got around to snapping some photos in this gem*. I styled it neatly with a printed blouse, colored tights, and my ankle booties. I'm all about the greens and mustard color combo. So far I've been pleasantly surprised with how well this skirt matches almost everything in my closet. What's even better is the skirt works year round! Who knew one skirt could turn my closet around?

Do you have any mustard pieces in your closet? What's your favorite work essential? Hope everyone is having a fabulous week so far! Be sure to look out for a special Valentine's day post this week ;)

*Finally used my new camera, however, I still don't have a tripod. Please excuse the awkward angles!

Booties of my Dreams

I'd like to assume we each have those special moments of love at first sight, whether it's a new bag or pair of pumps. Every once in a blue moon, something catches my eye and I'm instantly infatuated. I start to imagine the perfect outfits I'd create and convince myself how this one piece, would be the perfect addition to my closet. It usually depends on the price tag and the stock availability, and more often than not, it sits on my pinterest wall only to become a distant memory.

My latest find was the strangest yet. While viewing a dress on Anthropologie, I noticed the model's booties. The color, style, and heel hight were perfection. I was in total awe. I headed over to the shoe section in search of these beauties and found nothing. You could say I was gravely disappointed. I searched the world wide web and came up with all types of names, but nothing looked as good. I even tried on similar styles at DSW, but no luck. Before I gave up, I headed to The Hunt(love this site!) and posted the photo. I got a couple followers, but no one could find them. I was losing all hope y'all.

While "window" shopping online last night, I decided to visit Anthropolige again. After checking out the new stuff, I noticed the "sale" tab. For some incredibly strange reason, I hadn't clicked the tab before now. While scrolling through the shoes, they appeared. I couldn't believe my eyes. They were the exact style, 35% off, and left with only two shoe sizes, one of those mine! If all goes well, those booties will be mine in just a matter of time!

Have you had a similar situation with any pieces before? Are you excited for any of the spring/summer booties? I can't get over the selection this season. Make sure to keep an eye out here for a sneak peek of my soon to be booties! Happy Wednesday, lovelies!
